City Bridge Trust Stepping Stones Grant award—to business plan a fee-generating Recruitment Agency Social Enterprise.
Action West London is pleased to have been awarded a grant from the Stepping Stones ‘Capacity Building’ programme designed to help start up new social enterprises.
Capacity building support is needed to help set up a fee- earning Recruitment Agency. Action West London has successfully developed Acton Street Market which generates a financial surplus.
We now need recruitment agency expertise to develop a Recruitment Agency which could cover West London and attract social investment. AWL has 19 years track record of delivering contracts helping over 2000 disadvantaged adults and young people into employment. We have excellent links with large companies and SME's. We know the employment market . The Park Royal Employers Skills Analysis (May 2016) survey of 170 companies in West London demonstrates a need for a Recruitment Agency (with a social Mission) to help Employers achieve their recruitment needs for hiring (a) local people with (b) low/medium/high skills and (c) from diverse communities. Employers will pay for an Agency that helps them find local labour, has excellent contacts with local people and which supports, trains and prepares candidates prior to interview-and also provides support for them when in employment. Action West London (AWL) has significant potential to attract social investment but we needed Stepping Stones capacity building funding support.
Stepping Stone funding will resource time and expertise from individuals and organisations with proven expertise in
1. setting up, managing and running social enterprise and private sector recruitment agencies.
2. Purchasing 'setting up a recruitment agency' model systems.
3. Sales, branding and marketing.
4. Legal structures for a recruitment company.
5. Social impact measurement .
What our project will aim to achieve
The project aims to strengthen the capacity of AWL to develop a social enterprise which will attract social investment within 12 months of the project start date. The project will achieve our Mission of 'changing disadvantaged peoples’ lives through Employment' and will move people out of poverty. The income generating focus of the Recruitment Agency will provide the financial case for social investment and have a major social impact.
The project will achieve future social investment to develop a 'Local Jobs' branded recruitment agency with the potential to be 'franchised' in the future to generate even more income and more social investment.
